The second we got out of the car we could already HEAR it — this deep rumbling sound coming from the forest. Dad said "that's the waterfall" and me and Lux just looked at each other and SPRINTED down the trail!! He took us to Elk Falls Provincial Park and honestly?? This might be the coolest place I've ever been.
Into the Forest 🌲
The trail started in this GORGEOUS forest with huge trees everywhere and everything covered in green moss. Me and Lux were walking side by side down the path and it felt like we were in some kind of fantasy movie. The trees are SO tall you can barely see the sky and the air smells like fresh cedar and earth.
We found this massive fallen tree covered in moss and obviously we HAD to climb on it. Lux found a stick and was pretending to be a wizard and I was giving my signature peace sign. The forest was so magical — there were giant old cedar trees that are like hundreds of years old and their trunks were SO wide I could hide behind them!!
The Suspension Bridge 😱🌉
Okay THIS is the part where I almost lost it. There's a SUSPENSION BRIDGE that goes over the entire canyon and you can look straight down at the waterfall crashing below you!! The bridge wobbles when you walk on it and the mist comes up from the falls and you can feel the spray on your face!!
At first I was kind of scared because you can see EVERYTHING through the fence — the canyon is SO deep and the water is SO powerful below you. But then it was actually SO cool!! Me and Lux were looking down at the falls and the water was this beautiful turquoise colour smashing against the rocks. The sound was INCREDIBLE — so loud you have to yell to hear each other!!
The Waterfall Viewpoint 🌊
Then we went down these stairs to the viewing platform and OH MY GOSH. You could see the whole waterfall crashing down into the canyon!! The water was white and blue and SO powerful — it felt like the ground was vibrating!!
Down to the River 💙
Dad took us down to the rocks right next to the river above the falls and we got to walk right out onto these huge flat rocks. There were little tide pools and mossy patches everywhere and Lux was finding sticks and exploring everything. You could see the water rushing past heading straight for the edge of the falls — it was so wild knowing that all that water was about to drop off a cliff!!
We sat right there on the rocks and just watched the water for a while. Me and Lux were sitting together and I was making my duck face because obviously that's what you do at waterfalls.
The sun was coming through the trees making these AMAZING light rays through the mist. It looked like something out of a movie — the whole area was glowing!!
Family Selfie Time!! 📸
Of COURSE Dad had to get a family selfie. Look at us!! I was making my surprised face and Lux was being all cute behind me. The waterfall is right behind us and you can see how beautiful and wild the water is.
My Nature Modelling Moment 💅
Okay so then I found the PERFECT rock to sit on right by the river and I had to have a little photo shoot. The sun was hitting just right and the water was rushing behind me and I felt like a nature model!!
Peace sign for the camera because that's my THING!!
And then I gave Dad my serious model pose because every good photo shoot needs at least one where you look all mysterious and cool.
Elk Falls is seriously SO beautiful and I can't believe it's so close to where we live on Vancouver Island!! The suspension bridge over the canyon is probably the most exciting thing I've ever walked across, the giant old trees are unreal, and sitting on the rocks by the river was so peaceful. If you ever visit Campbell River you HAVE to go see it!!
Thank you Dad for another amazing adventure!! Can we go back next weekend?? Please?? 💕
